The whole rank thing is a pretty good idea. It’s basically the entire point of Minecraft prison servers and it’s really motivating.
I also really like the rank ideas for players, and businesses. An old server I used to really enjoy playing was mccities I think. They had a rank system like this. One for balance, one for companies etc. You could also pick more jobs, such as an architect. Ill use that example. You pick that and do x amount of jobs and then you can rank up and get an incentive (for instance maybe when you rank up to lvl 2 you get a chest full of design materials etc). You could be a doctor or do other things that technically we could implement since we have slimefun.
In stead of starting a tutorial how we do it now, the tutorial should be a University or something. You can pick a starting job like a doctor, farmer, miner, chef, and then learn about that job. This can make a starting goal of wanting to start a restaurant or something, I don’t know anything about plugins or writing them so I don’t know what’s possible but I’m just throwing out ideas. Also, say a new player picks the jobs chef or doctor, It would be nice to be able to earn money while crafting these items (only a few F) or while doing the mining job or say a lumber job (you get money for cutting down trees),
This might help bring some more role play etc.
Also having a police/criminal scene on the other server had everyone playing all the time. I did a modified version of this in Ashford years ago with police and robbery games, This was harder to implement without plugins, but had many people wanting to roleplay and be a cop or bad guy. Best case scenario is we would hire players as police and they would have a rank, uniform and a jail stick (like handcuffs) when a player breaks a rule (such as killing someone, robbing a bank) the police can chase you to jail you or kill you etc. If you get jailed you actually got teleported to a cute jail cell in the police station for like 5 mins. It was super fun.
Except that was never the goal of warp removal, as one of the new staff members who campaigned for the removal of warps here is why I think it was time to get rid of them:
- They made private cities worthless as everyone shopped at warp stores and couldn’t be bothered to shop in private cities. To paraphrase GBT “People don’t build cities and buildings anymore because there is no incentive”. By removing warps and making all cities equal in chance of succeeding we attempted to create more demand for building because now you don’t need a 500k upfront investment to run a profitable store. I’ve already seen major investments in cities like Monbay, Archendale and I believe Argos was heading the same way before Gbt got banned. It also allows for more circulation among players rather than money moving to the government through auctions.
Yes, and this was tried in the past, but not all player’s want to work for / lead a department and aren’t already in one, we should def look into this again though :p.
In my opinion it should be both, all “types” of players should be represented.
Def, and it technically already exists with open applications (Planning on releasing an ad soon), but again the issue of none wanting to do it / active enough to post frequently arises.
Community development department :p, but again same issue as above raises, its super hard to find players who want to work as player helpers, we have a few v nice ones currently, but a NPC quest-tutorial system like ultra mentioned would definitely be a good idea, but for that the same issue arises again, finding players to design the areas, write texts, etc.
I agree :p, a lot of departments have players in them, and players leading departments has also happened before, and could definitely happen again
This is only valid if theres no keep inventory otherwise theres no risk to be a bandit. If players could PVP everywhere, then we could have a lawful/pvp system, or reputation system, add jail if you get caught by “police” players and so on. Stupid idea but we need roleplay things.
Private cities are still worthless, and people still shop at warp stores.
There are no warp stores :p.
I think Role-play should be the focus, it’s the best way to keep new players. Some actual role-play jobs (pushing a mine cart is not role-play idk what the thought process behind that was) like robbing a bank or being a police officer could really help increase activity.
Private cities are still worthless, and people still shop at warp stores.
Maybe that’s because it takes time for people to develop these things? Currently the only real shop people go to is Aramega and some other shop in Paradise Hills. Agora in rare circumstances. But neither of these are warp shops. Other megastores like Antec are still developing and are moving to more prime locations.
You’ve got to give these things time.
Their points still stand
Unban gbt
If my specialty tools that I’ve used since 2015 start randomly being taken because a creeper spawns in areas of my city where they’re not supposed to be able to and kills me while I’m maintaining my city… I’m leaving and absolutely never coming back. It’s bad enough that nobody plays, but taking our stuff would be nail in the coffin for us die-hards.
Just because I removed warps doesn’t mean that people will shop at private cities now overnight. If our playerbase doesn’t expand then people’s habits will not change. But if we increase playercount, new players can economically survive with enough stocking and advertising at private cities, giving them many more equal opportunities than they had before. Let me make this clear that removing warps is not supposed to appeal to consumers, it appeals to new producers, small companies on HM. So like beak said it takes time (not necissarily because time doesn’t imply more new players, we have to act on recruiting and advertising if we want that)
I feel as if the direction of RP servers is going down this route. And it is seemingly working. Giving players an actual purpose in the game will make them stay longer. The only reason most of us are still playing HM is that we were introduced to the community. With no active community, no players are staying.
I agree with this. Not only will this help HM gain more players, but it will keep the community entertained.
This is a good point on the argument of the removal of warps. Although i personally think that warps should be brought back, we have not seen the full potential of what this could do for the economy. I still think that the complexity of transportation on the server is still a huge problem.
This is a prime example of the split our community has on the removal of keep inventory. It will have a more positive effect on the economy. However, it will surely hurt the playability of the server. Making most of the community split on this topic. I personally believe it would do wonders for the economy, making a penalty for death, and I am a supporter of the idea. But I see that whoever is against the removal, is very against the removal. Pretty much removing half of our player base. Unless a well-thought-out plan is put in place for the removal of keep inventory, the server can survive with it being kept on.
The big problem here is that there is not enough of a player base to adapt to this large of a change. This is a great concept that can be carried out in the future. However, in the current state the server is in, I personally don’t believe the positives outweigh the negatives.
This requires an increasing an advertising (I honestly recommend tik tok and someone said earlier that there was an issue with “economy roleplay server” not giving hm on google which is how I and a lot of others found the server so that should be rectified) and developing infastructure.
On the 2nd part, the problem I’m guessing which probably wasn’t fixed after I was banned was the lack of cities capable of doing this. Argos for example was planning on building a new district with an airport and front row shops designed specifically for a front row shopping experience that private cities never developed for since this was never competitive. With warps removed however, I doubt the necessary infrastructure and redevelopment occurred in private cities nor has anything majorly ground breaking occurred on that front do to extremely slow building times and the already developed infrastructure and buildings needing to be demolished and redeveloped. Cities need to redevelop but 90% of the airport cities were inactive and the others were already purchased up. Buisnesses simply didn’t move since there wasn’t any need to nor were cities properly setup for it. Expanding the cities isn’t a priority since people simply don’t have the time to spend weeks or months straight building infrastructure to make this feasible like we all had back in the day when we were younger. I’m sure there are probably exceptions to this but based on the comments, the vast majority of the server seems to feel like this isn’t the case on a large scale. Maybe if easy place was/is legalized at least for a temporary time until the server economy and industry is redeveloped we would have rapid development like we saw in the early days.
Rapid development would probably aid small shops since small shops flourished when there was a high demand and higher profits compared to the pricing that we have today which I put in previous post.
came back from the dead just to say that the average balance on baltop increased 25x times since 2014 (source)
whats the point of a starting bal then? isn’t that communism too? why is 5k not communism but 10k is? most people here see 10k and they think “five digits???” but yeah thats what your economy has become ![]()
this is why you guys still need an economic department, its ez to make as well. just make a discord, make an #application channel and get people of expertise and different areas from the server
Bump
This post is four years old
funny this was bumped again,
I dont play anymore, but its sad to watch hm die. I was surprised to see the discord still had some activity, but from the staff side nothing has changed. under the “news & updates” section in the discord, some announcement channels have barely any activity in the past 4 months, whereas a year ago there where at least weekly announcements and small updates.
I can tell there is still a tight commuinity thats keeping the server somewhat active, but its hard for me to find my passion for the server again with nothing fun going on
I thought this topic had some good discussion and it may be good for some to review these ideas. I don’t think the server has changed drastically since this topic was made and some things probably still apply today
