It has come to my attention recently that the ignoring of players conflicts with the sending/receiving of mail.
This presents a problem as hypothetically a player that is ignored might be a co-owner or buys a share in a city. It could also open it up to intentional abuse for one side of the other. Additionally it may be necessary to ignore a player as some players can be abusive.
I am aware there is also a discord channel which is rarely used as I believe this was for when the forums were down.
I would like to suggest the eviction rules and process be changed with the help of a Denizen command.
Options to consider:
Option 1) Instead of mailing a player directly there is a command i.e. /evictnotice (similar to /ad command that I designed with kili’s help). This would send a mail from the server instead of the player to ensure they receive it. It could also send a confirmation back to the city owner
Option 2) Eviction notices are placed on the forum in advance for eyesores/incomplete builds and then approved after the time elapses in which a player can enforce it.
I believe this would be a straightforward common sense approach that would resolve issues with private messaging.
Note: I will not be responding to any comments on here so feel free to debate the above but people often make personal attacks and this is about the issue for everyone, not anything I may have been affected by due to a similar issue.
Wouldn’t this not only be tedious, but also indirectly pointless?
Not only can mail already be sent, but signs are placed in front of the plot. In my opinion, there’s also no need for eviction posts to be made before they are ready to be evicted and/or eyesore-expiry – as that could be seen as unneeded and too much work when there’s a system which has worked for over a decade, and doesn’t need replacing anytime soon.
The Advert command is great as it makes adverts more distinguisable in chat. An eviction notice command would effectively be redundant as a result of /mail - and players who ignore a city owner should realise that there is a chance that they may recieve eviction notices - and should keep an eye on their plots themselves (regardless of ignoring city owners or not).
It wouldn’t be tedious, it would just require uploading a post of a request to fix an issue. Players already have to create before and after screenshots and it doesn’t have to be the forum, can be the existing rarely used redundant Discord channel as well. It would also be another way to let players know who maybe are away or taking a short break from HelloMiners and may check the forums/discord. Remember, players have paid for these plots so a tiny bit of effort isn’t the problem, even if those players might need that kick up the backside. Sometimes people lose screenshots so it helps then too. Players could also use this as a way to provide proof of completion so the owner if they are away are also notified and staff and city managers are reassured as well. If process isn’t followed properly, other players/staff can advise at the earliest opportunity too.
Great if the mail is actually received - see suggestion issue above. I’ve checked Essentials config and there is no mail option to bypass a player /ignoring you so the mail will not be received. Signs are also good for those in-game who would see. On occasion if the signs are misplaced due to the size of the plot or it being part of a separate build or being re-regioned to look like it is an eyesore, players would likely not see it. We have the multiple avenues in place to cover all bases so one way or another a player should see an eviction notice, however not all bases are being covered.
True if everything worked as expected. Whilst the issue appears not to have been a problem for the most of the time server has been around, I would argue quite a few players in the time I’ve been playing the server have moaned about not receiving a mail, even 1 from myself when I had the screenshot, so actually I think it is a problem that players are experiencing but generally either assume corruption or just put up with it and end up leaving.
That’s just the text formatting. The command for i.e. /evictnotice would be an alias for mail sending and because sent by the server it wouldn’t be ignored.
As explained above it would not be redundant as it would be sent by the server as an alias to a mail command. You would not need to then send a mail command. Look I totally get the idea that the player should just not ignore players that are abusive to them for the sake of keeping a plot, but some cities have multiple owners and lets say you had a plot in Fake City and there was this horrid player called Fendil who you ignored. Fendil then buys a share in Fake City and then send you an eviction notice at the earliest opportunity. You wouldn’t even notice.
I’ve updated the suggestion above as options 1 and 2 as it’s not the eviction process being replaced. Whilst option 2 can be included or disregarded, the most important thing is a option 1 is sorted as it’s an easy to make command that would fix the issue and ensure noone has excuses or abuses the command knowing a player is ignoring them.
